Kingswood United Thunder are an Under 8 team. The team was set up with children who originally were part of the Soccer School and will play their first season from September. 

They played a number of friendlies and tournaments to get as much match experience as possible before the start of the season.

I initially went to the first meeting to find out more and see if I could support the club. I was impressed by the way Paul wanted to develop football opportunities within the community and help children to play with others in the area.

From that meeting I agreed to help out at Kingswood United’s Soccer School so that my older son had more chances to play football with other children of a similar age. After two or three weeks my younger son also joined in. 

I decided to continue my learning and complete my FA Coaching Level 1 course so that I could form my own team. Supporting the Soccer School showed my love of the game and thirst to do more. As there was a high number of 7 year olds in the soccer school, I thought it would be best to form a team for this age range. 

My day to day job is a head teacher, a stressful job on a daily basis. Coaching children with football is an amazing change for me and puts a big smile on my face. It is still a form of teaching but totally different from what I see in the classroom. The children in Thunder have really developed in such a short time and love being part of a team. They really look out for each other and support each other to improve. I can’t wait to see how well they do in their first season and beyond.
